TRICKLING WATERS
Trickling waters
dripping down cold crevices
into potholes
on the ground.
Dreams engraved
on the half-covered sky
peering through
a light
captured between the spaces:
paper-thin holes
a cross-generational infestation
in cemented bricks
leaking gold.
Tightened collars
strapped around the neck
made of copper, not silver
a life’s choice
served on the civil tongue.
The papillary ridges on the walls
made too thin for the rain;
two buckets filled
a third readied
in waiting hands.
Inspired by Allen Ginsberg’s Howl and the Beat Generation, Listen is a collection of long and short confessions that speak of the troubled state of mind in a time of uncertainty and anxiety in Hong Kong.
Readers are taken on a journey through the streets of Hong Kong, transitioning seamlessly from public to private lives. Held together by five breath-length performance prose pieces, the collection offers a glimpse into the perpetual wandering and observation of city streets.
Listen delves into themes of bitter upbringing, nostalgic oranges, and a deep calling to the Hong Kong poets of our time. The collection is a celebration of poetry that gives light and hope in a city divided, where creativity and expression are more important than ever.
With its haunting prose and vivid imagery, Listen is a must-read for anyone who wants to explore the intersection of poetry, politics, and culture in contemporary Hong Kong. It is a testament to the enduring power of the written word to inspire, heal, and transform in times of darkness and uncertainty.
