Review by Shobana: Five Times Doomed - Tales of Betrayal

Date of Review: 08/04/2022

The author, Terveen Gill’s introduction to Five Times Doomed is gripping, to say the least; we were born to be betrayed, it is just a matter of time, circumstance, and place.

This book comes with five incredibly touching stories that tell of past and recurring hurts, and betrayal. guilt.

in the instance of the first story, I Hear You, Mama, a boy refuses to accept that his mother is quite the selfish personality, often consoling himself that she is that way because she loves him. A total betrayal of a mother to a son is well expressed here.

In No reason to die, Terveen’s story touches on deceit. The ending to the story is quite remarkable where the protagonist states. Life is merely a game, and I have learned how to play it by my own rules. Death itself cannot be cheated, but it can certainly be used to cheat life.

Let Me In is more of an A.I. story about Naze, from the race known as Pragore, who are feared for their savageness. Their sole mission is to eliminate and destroy anything in their paths, plundering the enemy’s mind of every single morsel of data. They feed upon the data, merging it with their own, multiplying their intelligence. This empowered them with the capability to fight, adapt, and evolve in an alarmingly rapid manner. The aftermath of such attacks always resembles a horrific bloodbath that ended in violent ends.

No Matter What is a heart-wrenching story about a haunting past and life’s trying lessons learned as a survival tactic. A very well-written piece.

The Monster Beauty tells the story of a fifteen-year-old raised in a brothel. Sona is conditioned to be ready to entertain men when she is suddenly kidnapped and taken to someplace far away to be hidden from her ill-fated destiny. She is surprised to find out that the kidnappers are her mother and brother.  They kill her when the brothel owner’s goons manage to trace their whereabouts.

I highly recommend this book as a good read - shobana
